DEVELOPMENT LOG

Changelog

Every MORSO update, newest first: 19 releases since v0.1.

v0.8.5.6RELEASE

Ladder results on the statistics screen

Built for Dota 7.41f. Your MMR change now shows right after a ladder match.

  • Your own game shows the confirmed result and the MMR animation as soon as morsomid.com has decided, without waiting for the lobby host.
  • The host now always accepts the result, even when it arrives early, and asks again if it is missing.
v0.8.5.5RELEASE

Helper buttons, faster ladder results and fixes

Built for Dota 7.41f. Fixes found in the first ranked matches of v0.8.5.

  • Abilities that need a second button now bring it with them: Shadow Poison Release, Unstable Concoction Throw, Nightmare End, Launch Snowball, Spirits In and Out, Sharpshooter Release and others. The button is removed when you replace the ability.
  • The top bar shows each side's kills correctly after Radiant and Dire are drawn.
  • Your ladder result and MMR change reach the statistics screen within seconds of the winner being decided. If the connection is slow, the screen says so and offers SYNC RESULT, which can be pressed a limited number of times.
  • Fixed overlapping rows in the player statistics window and the Steam link code field.
  • Ladder games contact morsomid.com less often during a match: a heartbeat about every 90 seconds.
v0.8.5RELEASE

Rank medals, a new lobby and drag-and-drop drafting

Built for Dota 7.41f. MORSO has a new look, a lobby that explains the game, and rank medals from Creep to Mad Moon.

  • Rank medals: eight tiers tied to Dota lore, each with five divisions. Mad Moon V players in the global top 10 show their place on the medal, and the top three have podium medals. Your medal replaces the Steam avatar in the lobby, on the READY check and after the match, and changes as your MMR does.
  • The lobby shows an introduction, the latest update, the map, how to play, the rules and the map features, plus a player list and a clearer chat.
  • Ladder checks both connections in a popup and starts the READY check by itself. If a connection fails, the popup closes and the host can try again.
  • Drag abilities from the offers into your slots. In a match, rearrange abilities by dragging one slot onto another.
  • Roshan now really has half of Dota's health, including his growth over time. The earlier health reduction did not apply.
  • Illusions, including Doppelganger and illusions of the enemy hero, copy the current abilities of the hero they show.
  • Strategy lasts 20 seconds and the horn sounds 20 seconds after it. The last five seconds of each draft phase beep, menu buttons click, and the strategy inventory sits under the shop.
  • New cover and emblem: the central island crossed by the mid lane. The watermark with the match ID and version is shown in every phase.
v0.8.4RELEASE

Reharm, a new lobby and ladder abandon penalties

Built for Dota 7.41f. The lobby asks less of morsomid.com, both players can chat before the match, and leaving a ladder match now has consequences.

  • Multicast now also repeats point and no-target abilities, ultimates included. Every Multicast chance is halved. Abilities that move or hide the caster are never repeated.
  • Rearm is now Reharm: it also costs health equal to its mana cost, but never below 1 health. Keen Conveyance is drafted on its own.
  • Talents: level 10 talents are stronger and level 25 talents are game-changing. Tier prefixes were removed from the names.
  • Shard Wisp's Mana Break burns mana again.
  • ALL RANDOM in the ability draft gives one free ability change.
  • The host picks Ladder, Tournament (coming later) or Unranked. Only Ladder checks the connection to morsomid.com; Unranked never contacts it.
  • Leaving a started ladder match for two minutes loses it, costs an extra 25 MMR and, when repeated within 7 days, adds a ladder cooldown.
  • Pre-game chat, Steam avatars, a screenshot watermark with match ID and version, and an animated MMR change after the match.
v0.8.3RELEASE

A ladder that works in player-hosted lobbies

Dota gives player-hosted Arcade lobbies no way to contact a website from the game server, so earlier beta results were rarely saved. Your own game now connects to morsomid.com instead, and both players confirm each result.

  • The host registers the match. Each player's game joins it, confirms the start and the winner, and sends a heartbeat during the match. A result changes MMR only when both games agree, or one confirms after the other stopped responding.
  • New rating: everyone starts at 1000 MMR. Beating a stronger player is worth more, and new players move faster for their first 10 matches.
  • Games on the same network, more than 3 rated games against the same opponent in 24 hours and games under 2 minutes are recorded without changing MMR.
  • Optional Steam sign-in at morsomid.com/link. Enter the code on the READY screen, then protect your account so only your game can play ladder matches as you.
  • If a player's game cannot reach morsomid.com, the host's lobby panel names that player. Unranked always works.
  • A hero-pick timeout now counts as Random Hero and gives the Enchanted Mango and Faerie Fire.
  • Fixed player avatars for newer Steam accounts on player cards.
v0.8.2RELEASE

Choose Ranked or Unranked before you ready up

The host now picks the match mode first. Both players see the choice before pressing Ready.

  • Ranked requires two players and a working MORSOMID connection. The host can retry a failed connection three times; Unranked works without the stats service.
  • Unranked matches do not change MMR or lifetime stats. Ranked still uses the open-beta ladder: host-reported results, possible resets and no automatic abandon bans.
  • Divided We Stand copies stay inactive until the ability is learned and are removed when it is replaced. A copy dying kills the main hero and the other copies; only the main hero counts toward the match's two-kill limit.
  • Roshan has 50% less maximum health.
  • The HUD's Shard and Scepter tooltips show upgrades for your current abilities and update when you replace a skill.
v0.8.1.2RELEASE

Missing HTTP request blocked READY

Fixed the host error found in player console logs: Dota returned no HTTP request handle, and READY stopped with a Lua error.

  • HTTP calls check the returned handle and try the alternative native request factory.
  • If neither factory is available, open-beta matches can start in practice mode without recording MMR.
  • Statistics loading and server pairing handle missing requests without crashing. Verified ranked eligibility is still required.
  • Regression tests cover missing handles and both players pressing READY. Local-host MMR sync still needs an in-game check.
v0.8.1.1RELEASE

READY button handling

Changes for the READY issue reported in some two-player lobbies.

  • READY handles clicks directly, including clicks on its label, and immediately shows WAITING while awaiting the host.
  • A host error or missing response no longer leaves the request permanently locked. An error message allows players to retry.
  • Added console diagnostics for READY. The reported lobby issue still needs verification in a two-player Workshop match.
v0.8.1RELEASE

Open Beta MMR and player stats

Two-player local-host matches can now report results to the beta leaderboard. READY and post-match screens show your rating, Global Rank and lifetime stats.

  • Completed two-player matches award +25 MMR for a win and -25 for a loss, with a minimum of 0.
  • Stats follow your Steam Account ID, so changing your nickname does not reset them.
  • The beta ladder uses host-reported results and identities, which are not independently verified. Beta records may be reset. Solo practice and unfinished matches do not award MMR; there are no automatic abandon bans during beta.
  • READY and final statistics use structured player cards with Global Rank, MMR, win rate and aligned stat rows. Leaderboard columns separate rank, player, MMR and wins/losses.
  • Random Hero has a gold card, a larger question mark, and Enchanted Mango and Faerie Fire icons.
  • Ability offers align with the hero panel. Strategy abilities appear in one larger row beneath the hero and innate, to the left of the stats.
v0.8RELEASE

Map, draft and interface update

A new Roshan pit, Ancient camps, hero information panels and a new draft flow.

  • Redesigned map with a river Roshan pit and two Ancient camps.
  • Ready check, Random Hero with bonus consumables, and 200-gold Mulligans.
  • Hero stat previews and Shard / Scepter upgrade tooltips.
  • Updated strategy screen, 15 seconds of night preparation and final items in the match review.
  • Bonus earned gold and XP: 30% for ranged heroes, 40% for melee.
v0.6.2RELEASE

15-minute crash fix

Roshan stays in his pit. The 15-minute crash fix, creep preloading and Tempest Double cleanup improve match stability.

Match stability

  • Block Roshan's timed pit migration on the single-pit map. The previously crashing 15-minute transition passed a local playtest with this change.
  • Preload all normal, super and mega lane-creep variants before the match.

Tempest Double

  • Copy the current drafted abilities and ranks to Tempest Double, including repeat summons.
  • Remove owned doubles when the ability is replaced and clear selection of dead doubles.
  • Exclude Tempest Double deaths from the two-kill victory condition.

Ability compatibility

  • Exclude unselectable and out-of-game spell helpers from illusion build replacement to protect their native effects and lifetime.
v0.6.1RELEASE

Stability hotfix

Creep wave transitions

  • Preload all normal, super and mega lane-creep variants before the match, including flagbearers and siege units for both teams.
  • Use a shared validated unit table for preloading and spawning.
  • Add server diagnostics around creep-tier transitions to investigate the reported 15-minute engine crash.

Tempest Double

  • Copy the current drafted ability build and ranks to Tempest Double, including when it is summoned again.
  • Remove control of dead doubles and return selection to the main hero when needed.
  • Dispose of owned doubles when Tempest Double is replaced, including surviving summons and cached dead units.
  • Exclude Tempest Double deaths from the two-kill victory condition.

Roshan

  • Block timed pit migration on the single-pit map by placing the initial migration threshold beyond match duration.
  • Keep native combat and scaling, one-life behavior, and Aegis/Aghanim's Blessing rewards.
v0.6RELEASE

Roshan and Invoker's spells

Highlights

  • Roshan joins the map beside the Lotus Pool. Defeat him once per match for Aegis and Aghanim's Blessing; native Dota scaling is retained.
  • Invoker's ten standalone spells join the ability pool, including Tornado, Sun Strike and Chaos Meteor. Invoke, Quas, Wex and Exort are removed from the pool; its ten spells use their standalone Ability Draft versions.

Map & Objectives

  • Shard Wisp moves to its own misty alcove on the opposite side of the map.
  • GridNav boundaries prevent heroes from walking outside the map.
  • Central-island statues now block vision as well as movement; trees added to the island.
  • Removed the river Pollywog neutral camp; added small camps behind both towers.
  • Roshan does not respawn.

Balance

  • Melee passive and creep last-hit gold bonuses reduced from +40% to +30%. Vengeful Spirit still counts as ranged.
  • Shard Wisp movement speed increased to 300, attacks are 50% faster, and health regeneration increased from 3 to 12 HP/s.

Strategy & Interface

  • Fixed the strategy inventory layout: two rows of three slots, with three backpack slots below.
  • Drag inventory items between slots during strategy, including backpack slots.
  • Right-click a purchased inventory item during strategy to sell it for a full refund.
  • Updated the annotated in-game map and Workshop map image for the new layout.

Artwork

  • Updated the Crystal Maiden versus Warlock cover with battling lane creeps and a ghostly Shard Wisp.
v0.5RELEASE

The MORSO announcer and strategy screen

Highlights

  • Meet the MORSO announcer: seven custom voice lines introduce the draft and announce escalating creep waves. The standard announcer is disabled.
  • A dedicated 15-second strategy screen keeps the battlefield hidden while you shop and manage your inventory.

Audio & Presentation

  • The strategy screen shows your selected hero and four drafted abilities in slot order above the inventory, with ability tooltips.
  • Custom announcements play when side assignment, hero pick and ability pick begin.
  • Super creeps (15:00), mega creeps (20:00), double waves (25:00) and triple waves (30:00) receive voice announcements and five-second banners at the top center of the screen.
  • Confirmed hero and ability selections, including All Random, play Dota's hero-lock sound.
  • The Dota battle horn marks the start of the match.
  • Your selected hero, portrait and icon appear on the left during ability pick.

Balance

  • Melee passive-gold and creep last-hit-gold bonuses reduced from +50% to +40%. Vengeful Spirit still counts as ranged.

After Action Review

  • Added New abilities rolled above Gold spent on new abilities. Counts completed replacements, including free-token and Random replacements; opening an offer or rearranging abilities does not count.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the strategy background remaining over live gameplay. The strategy view now closes on its deadline even if the final phase message is delayed.
  • Added the annotated map and a compact Dota-style inventory (six item slots and three backpack slots) below it. Removed the custom selling controls.
  • Coup de Grace no longer grants Blur to other heroes. Phantom Assassin keeps her own innate.
  • Raised the in-game ability buttons to clear the stash panel.
  • Made the strategy countdown explicit and ensured creep-wave banners remain visible for five full seconds after arrival.
  • Fixed custom ability buttons briefly reappearing over the native item shop during periodic state updates.
v0.4RELEASE

Talent pool, strategy phase and draft flow

  • Reworked rune token rewards around server-owned native pickup, including deferred consumption.
  • Replaced hero-specific talents with randomized general bonuses in the native talent tree at levels 10/15/20/25.
  • Fixed talent-name localization encoding.
  • Hero and ability draft advance early when all participants lock their choices.
  • Ability selections are saved as you pick: timeout keeps selected abilities and fills only empty slots.
  • All Random immediately locks four abilities from the full pool.
  • Added a 15-second strategy phase for buying starting items.
  • Ability replacement now works while dead; failed or timed-out loads retain the paid offer and unlock retry.
  • Renamed player-facing skill terminology to ability.
  • Moved the in-game toolbar above the shop area and hide it while the native shop is open.
  • Corrected runtime shop types and courier Secret Shop routing.
  • Shard Wisp gains a neutral-compatible Juxtapose. Copies also reproduce, with a shared six-copy limit and no Shard drops from illusions.
  • Mega waves double at 25:00 and triple at 30:00.
  • Updated catalog extraction for Dota 7.41f's separate hero definitions: 127 heroes, 508 core abilities.
  • New Crystal Maiden versus Warlock cover, with Radiant and Dire towers.
v0.2.5RELEASE

Illusions, fixes and a new cover

  • Hero pick now explains the +50% melee passive and creep last-hit gold bonus, including the Vengeful Spirit exception.
  • Fixed linked abilities granting free ranks, including Liquid Fire and Liquid Frost.
  • Ability replacement now removes self-effects tied to the discarded ability, including Gunslinger effects.
  • Fixed rune token attribution when the pickup event identifies the hero entity.
  • Enabled extended gold filtering and normalized filter input for the melee last-hit gold bonus.
  • New illusions copy the owner's current drafted abilities, order and levels.
  • New cover featuring Sven, Crystal Maiden, Axe and Lina.
  • Removed the map overview version number.
  • Rewrote the Workshop description around the game and its rules.
v0.2RELEASE

MORSO 1VS1 CUSTOM MID, Shard Wisp and rune tokens

  • Renamed to MORSO 1VS1 CUSTOM MID.
  • Added the Custom Hero OMG inspiration and LAN tournament background to the description.
  • Updated map: stairs at both ends of the central island and two movement-blocking statues.
  • Replaced the upper-hill ancient camp with Shard Wisp: 2,000 HP, 80–100 damage, nearby-player aggression and one Aghanim's Shard drop. No respawn in v0.2.
  • Reduced tower health from 2x to 1.5x.
  • Melee heroes now receive 1.5x passive gold and creep last-hit gold. Vengeful Spirit remains ranged for this rule.
  • Water and power rune pickups grant free ability tokens. Tokens stack; the next ability offer consumes one token instead of gold. Free offers do not increase the gold price.
  • Added the free ability counter below Buy new skill.
  • New lane waves become super creeps at 15:00 and mega creeps at 20:00.
  • Created an annotated map overview for the Workshop gallery.
v0.1RELEASE

  • First enemy mid tower or two kills decides the winner.
  • Town Portal Scroll cooldown removed; charges and mana still required.
  • Pausing restricted to active matches after drafting.
  • After Action Review with final builds and match statistics, including denies.
